A Blast from the Past (2010, to be exact)

As I was deleting some old drafts of blog posts, I came across this post.  I think I meant to post it, and just never did.  This was from three years ago--the year we lived in Charlestown, MA, and Ash was working as a hospitalist.  His schedule was 7 days on/ 7 days off, so we were able to travel and spend a lot of time together.  As we prepare to make the move back to Boston in a few months, I thought it would be the perfect time to finally post it.  :-)  I love that we had already said we're planning to move back to Boston when Ash finishes his fellowship--we truly did fall in love with the place, and are excited that we will indeed be moving back!

This year has flown by. Ash and I couldn't have asked for a better one--it was everything we hoped it would be. We'll be moving back to Manhattan in two short weeks, and though we're super excited to be near family and friends again, we're certainly going to miss Charlestown and our wonderful group of friends in Boston. We love it so much, we're already planning to move back when Ash's fellowship is complete.

Though it's near impossible to sum up the wonderful year we've had, here's a list of 50 things that we think are pretty cool, that we've been able to do in the past 365 days.

1. Bioluminesce Bay in Puerto Rico (Kayaked at night to see bioluminescence--amazing)
2. New England Auto Show (where you can test drive a few cars, but only Ash drove) :-)
3. Newburyport, MA (a quaint sailing town--great restaurants!)
4. Apple picking (Ash's first time)
5. A foliage drive in New Hampshire
6. The "Underground City" in Montreal (you could spend days down there!)
7. Spending a weekend in the Poconos with some fantastic friends
8. The Northeast's largest corn maze (with our fantastic friends as well, and which the wives won!)
9. A spontaneous Christmas celebration with family (Priya & Vin drove after flying in from India!)
10. Hosted Thanksgiving
11. Saw the USS Constitution shoot a cannon on the 4th of July (all by accident!)
12. Springfield, IL to meet an adorable new nephew
13. Washington, DC Cherry Blossom Festival (though we didn't see many cherry blossoms)
14. Threw a surprise birthday party for my Mom
15. Bowling in Port Authority for Priya's Birthday (only Neha did this)
16. Golf lessons and critiques by professional golfers (only Ash did this--in Scottsdale, AZ and Boston, MA)
17. Syracuse, NY for a 50th birthday party for Sunil Chacha
18. Scottsdale, AZ (one of our favorite cities in the country--we visited it for the 2nd time in two years)
19. Sedona, AZ (one of our other favorite cities in the country, same as above)
20. Las Vegas, NV (yes, yet another favorite city)
21. Las Vegas, NV (we love it so much we went twice in one year!)
22. "Waterfire" in Providence, RI (where they light bonfires on the river)
23. A Boston Red Sox game at Fenway Park
24. Became owners of a Nintendo Wii! (thanks Priya & Vin!)
25. San Juan, Puerto Rico for Ash's 30th!
26. Saw the Christmas Tree at Rockefeller Center
27. Braved a snowstorm for an annual family holiday dinner, and then played board games into the night
28. Notre Dame Basilica in Old Montreal
29. Daughtry concert
30. Montego Bay, Jamaica for Neha's 30th!
31. Bought an ice cream maker! (and can now make pinkberry-type frozen yogurt!)
32. Rode a segway (for two hours, all around Boston with the family!)
33. Visited the best driving range ever (Top Golf--you can order food!)
34. Went to a few Boston Celtics regular season games at the TD Garden
35. Went to Boston Celtics vs. Miami Heat (Round 1 of the postseason)
36. Went to Boston Celtics vs. Cleveland Cavaliers (Round 2 of the postseason)
37. Went to Boston Celtics vs. Orlando Magic (Eastern Conference Finals)
38. Went to Boston Celtics vs. LA Lakers (NBA FINALS!!!)
39. Drove a Boston "Duck" in the Charles River (yes, Ash did this one--drove the duck during a Duck Tour)
40. Chicago, IL--had a great time visiting friends and family!
41. Memphis, TN--more great time with friends and family!
42. "Haymarket" every Saturday we're in town (if you haven't been to Boston's fresh market--go!)
43. Charlestown Navy Yard (yes, we live here, but we love it so much it deserves its own mention)
44. Ash discovered his new favorite beer (Allagash White)
45. Neha discovered her new favorite restaurant (Orinoco)
46. San Diego, CA--had a great time visiting friends!
47. Bought tickets to the US Open Men's Finals
48. Had an Oscars party where we watched Sandra Bullock win!  Hurray!
49. Traded in the NYC subway for the Charlestown ferry as public transportation
50. And our favorite--spent more time together in these past 365 days than we've spent together through our entire marriage.  And we loved every minute of it!
