The Day of the Blizzard

Ash and I headed to NYC for our annual holiday dinner with Priya & Vinny--with our luck, it just happened to be the weekend of the forecasted "blizzard." Since we were driving, we kept going back and forth on whether we should head back early or not. Finally, Ash decided we'd just rough it out--and we're so glad we did. (The roads back were just fine!) Prammy came in from Philly, so we got to spend the whole day with family. Since the weathermen were making it sound like the sky was going to fall down with snow, I decided to document the day with photos.

The snow flurries started when we were at Pinkberry for our post-breakfast dessert. (Hello? Do you know me at all? We had to fit about 8 restaurants into 2 days.)



It was freezing out, but we had to go see Jenny and Randy--Ash did his best to keep Priya warm...in his own way.



We had warm pumpkin bread with the Longman's (yum!) and hung out for a bit.



Afterwards, we headed back, put the car in the garage, and made our way to Rockefeller Center. We were expecting the worst (it was the weekend before Christmas!), but it wasn't too bad. We took some normal pictures...




Then, before Priya and I knew what was happening, Vinny was on his way up...



When he got to the top, he spread his arms out and exclaimed, "This is so much better than anything we have in Kentucky!" Hysterical. (Priya was embarrassed--somehow, that made it even more funny.) This is one of my favorite pictures--ever.



After we had our fun in Rockefeller, we walked to Bryant Park and made our way around the outdoor shops. Since Max Brenner wasn't going to fit into the two day restaurant tour, I settled for buying a chocolate syringe from their temporary shop. Then, after spilling chocolate all over Vinny, we headed over to the Bryant Park tree. We could get into the branches of this one, which was cool.





Finally, after we had enough of the cold, we headed over to dinner. Since we weren't trusting cabs in the bad weather, we took the subway.



Priya and I had toasty boots on--but Vinny and Ash's toes started getting cold, and the snow was really starting to come down.



We all enjoyed dinner, but the review of the restaurant is for another post. Priya even spotted Hillary Duff--super cool. Since the weather was getting worse, it was obvious that many had cancelled their reservations. It was a perfectly cozy restaurant for all five of us to be in while the snow started coming down outside. When it was time to leave, it didn't look pretty.





So, we decided to head home and spend the rest of the night indoors. Of course, within the first 15 minutes (once the coffee and tea was made and pajamas were on), the board games came out. And we spent the next four hours playing Settlers of Catan.



Freaking awesome. Especially when you win. Twice. :-)

It was a fantastic day--I'm so glad we decided to hang around. Blizzard? I don't think so.
