Swati discovered a HUGE corn maze about an hour from the Poconos at a place called Horse Sleigh Farm. However, instead of reaching home around 5:00 on Sunday, we'd get home around 9:00 pm, as it would add quite a bit to our drive back to Boston, plus the additional time of doing the maze. I left the decision up to Ash (only fair, since he's the one driving), and he decided we should do it. Priya, Vinny, Swati and Sameer were going to go on their way back to NYC, so we'd gain some extra time with the four of them as well.
When we got there, we saw a ridiculously large area of corn. It didn't look that high from far away, but once we were in it, it was well above all of our heads. From the car, it looked something like a neverending field:
We decided to race through--guys against girls--winners get bragging rights. The girls started, and the boys were instructed to wait 5 minutes, and then begin. (On a side note, they have haunted mazes on Friday and Saturday nights--I probably would have cried it would have been so scary. It was creepy even in broad daylight. We're so doing the haunted one next year.)
We were given a map, and kept trying to find out where we were. The pictures below show you how high the corn really was--this maze was no joke!
Finally, 45 minutes later, the girls made it out! We counted down the five minutes (and crossed our fingers that the boys wouldn't appear), and then celebrated our victory! And then we waited. And waited. And played with the corn:
And waited some more. Mind you, we weren't thinking ahead, and so none of us had any money or keys to the car. (Who wants to carry a purse in a corn maze??) We saw sodas and cider, but had to wait for the boys to come out in order to buy anything. Finally, FORTY FIVE MINUTES LATER, the boys exited the maze. I snapped the picture below as they were walking towards us--notice:
Ash's victory pose: I'm alive! (He's such a ham.)
Sameer's casual stance: I wonder how long it'll take to live this down...
Vinny's dejected walk: I wonder if we had gone left instead of right at that fork...
Along the way, there were hints to solve a puzzle that only two people had ever figured out. With a bit of teamwork between our two teams, we successfully became the third group to figure it out! (Surprised? This group never met a puzzle they didn't like.) We shot this group picture before parting ways and heading home:
When we walked into our apartment that night (around 10:00 pm), I asked Ash if he still thought going to the corn maze was worth it. It had been a long drive, he didn't have a chance to prepare for the following seven days of work, and both of us were exhausted from the weekend. (We don't sleep much when we're all together.) His response? "Hell yeah it was worth it."
And a good time was had by all. :-)
